THE GEOGRAPHY of the CONTINENT
Did you know…? The continent in which Frieren lives is divided in like six sections (click to know more about each one):
Question(Q). Why did not the party of heros go to visit Aureole after defeating the Demon King?
Answer (A): They didn’t know that place existed until much later, otherwise they’d have tried to talk to their late beloved ones.
Also, even with the Demon King defeated, some of his disbanded army might have included some very powerful great demons. All in all, it was foolish to stay there or travel further north without a good reason, which they hadn’t: because their main mission was accomplished.
They were exhausted, had traveled for around 10 years, and simply wanted to move on and enjoy life under the new promising prospect of peace.
In this Episode at timestamp [2:18]Q: Why did not the company gather riches from dungeon raids and such… instead returned with no money and thought of looking for jobs in the Capital?
From all that we know, the party of heroes was VERY BAD at their economy management. They very much “seized the moment”.
They did not spare any cost of eating, drinking, transportation and accommodation. Very often they even spent money on helping others, like Heiter funding an orphanage. They valued more the journey and the fame than money. As for Frieren: she spends money like water on grimoires and magic objects, so it isn’t strange that she has very few savings, even if they found some treasures in dungeons or killing monsters protecting them.
DID YOU KNOW…? MUSIC in the FIRST SIX EPISODES.
Some of this episode’s score was made using the same techniques employed in Cinema: where the orchestra plays along the projected sequences of the anime, synchronising it much more with it. Under the direction of the renown composer Evan Call, you can hear the following great themes during this episode:Journey of a Lifetime // The End of One Journey // The Party of Heroes Returns // A Well-earned celebration // For 1000 Years // One Last Adventure // Farewell my Friend // Departures // Time Flows Ever Onwards

CURIOSITY: shrines for the Goddess.
It seems there are a lot of small stone shrines in the Central lands’ roads: dedicated to the Goddess, where people offer food or objects to her. We can see them in other episodes, like EP#03 —near the place where the Sage of Destruction (corruption) Qual is sealed…

CURIOSITY: the Goddess.
We see the first image of the Goddess of Creation in this palace mural, with her characteristic dress and elf ears (!)

During the celebration, what does the text in the sky “Chapter 6 The Last Battle” mean?
Many people mistake this text with something else, but it is NOT A DIVISION FOR THE EPISODE ITSELF (that would be weird).
It’s “simply” part of the magic fireworks show, created in the Capital to depict and celebrate the story of the party of heroes.
So: this is the 6th and probably last chapter in that story, told with magic fireworks that can create images. So it is the part where they tell the final defeat of the Demon King.
In this Episode at timestamp [4:46]The METEOR SHOWER OF ERA makes the official end of the original party’s adventure.
Can you guess how old is each and one of them?
- Himmel is probably around 27 years old, and will live another 50 more.
- Heiter is surprisingly around the same age as Himmel, but will get to extend his life for over 70 years… probably because a blessing from the Goddess?
- Eisen we can only guess: as a dwarf, likely 150-200 years old, and has probably at least 100 more to live.
- Frieren has lived somewhat more than 1000 years, and could potentially exist for many millennia more.

The place where we see Frieren falling for a mimic for the first time: reminds us of their dungeon raids during their journey, as told at episode 23.

What was Himmel thinking at this scene? Our THEORY…
Surely Himmel has realized at this moment that her romantic interest in Frieren has no point: because she can’t understand his feelings and return them.
Or maybe thinks that —in her eyes— he will die so soon that his love might only make her suffer… even if he could try and succeed in winning her over?
In any case, this moment is so “tragically beautiful” from a romantic perspective!

What’s in a Magical Suitcase?
We watch for the first time how Frieren goes away with her magical suitcase: one that can carry as many as 20 grimoires (as shown in Episode 4) and a lot of diverse magical items and memorabilia.

Hidden scenes in this WONDROUS MONTAGE…
[8:05] Frieren reads about the Dark Dragon Horn in a Grimoire.
The left page talks about: “Magic that makes animal footprints look shiny”
The right page seems to be the recipe to create the former magic: “This is what you need for materials
The first is the horn of the Dark Dragon.”
Someone in Reddit has tried to decipher all the text, but still part of it is not readable.
[8:17] This is the first time we see Frieren use the spell to create a field of flowers before a group of people in a burial site.
[8:20] What kind of crystals are those in that underground cave? We would love to know.
[8:29] The magic that projects illusions and shapes like a cinematograph.
We’ll see it used by Fern — several decades later— while she projects flying butterflies to a delighted Heiter. (At the end of episode 2).
It’s one of the spells that has made Fern to “somewhat” love magic!
In this Episode at timestamp [10:55]CONSPIRACY THEORIES.
Did the Dark Dragon Horn affect Himmel’s lifespan or health?
- Himmel saw Frieren as “a dear friend” who entrusted her with a treasure in the form of the dark dragon horn. So he put it in a drawer at his home, instead of using a shed or a similar storage facility.
- Although there are many theories that this horn may have caused Himmel to age significantly, stolen part of his soul, caused him to lose hair, and made him to be more “hunched”, we refuse to believe that, all those are unconfirmed and wildly speculative.
- What we do know for sure: is that Himmel loved Frieren so much 50 years ago that he treasured the few objects he had in common with her, including this strange artifact.
In this Episode at timestamp [11:08]
Where does the blue “messenger raven” take the horn?
Probably to Frieren’s home: a cabin in the forest. Remember that it is an ingredient for “an incantation”: so that when she returns there a while later, she can perform the magic spell that will allow her to track animals, used in episode 2.
In this Episode at timestamp [12:04]
This is the first time we see the familiar habit of Heiter patting’s Frieren’s head.
She’ll start to use that same gesture on episode 3 (after defeating Qual) to praise Fern.

Battle strategies from past Adventures
As we will see in this brief scene, the company still uses the strategy of Eisen distracting the monster… so that another member of the company, Frieren, has time to prepare to kill it, in this case with a Zoltraak spell.
We can see a similar tactic in the flashback that takes us to a Dungeon battle with Himmel —in the middle of EP. 25 “A Fatal Vulnerability”.
In this Episode at timestamp [15:45]
A great shot of the company of heroes fleeing away from a dragon.
Not always the strategy was to fight: sometimes, between the proverbial “fight or flight”, running was the better choice.
WARNING: MILD SPOILER OF SEASON 02 from the MANGA (click to reveal)
In the first episode of the second season, we’ll have a flashback that will show us why they’d flee from this dragon, and how event that affected Frieren’s perspective of this same kind of situations (involving Fern and Stark).

Do you see the Merkhur pudding Frieren’s having? Her favorite dessert ever (dressed with delicious berries), for all we know…

The Mirrored-lotus Ring first appearance.
Frieren keep this gift from Himmel, received on their way back of their 10-year adventure. What is Frieren thinking now?
She’ll understand better its meaning on EP.14 (“Privilege of the Young”) in a pivotal moment of her flashbacks.
COMPARISON WITH THE MANGA: this scene is NOT in the manga. But we think it is a nice addition that makes a lot of sense and creates a lovely foreshadowing for what happens later.
In this Episode at timestamp [18:10]PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION.
Is Eisen really that old and weak, to refuse going with Frieren?
- No, he is not. He will be training Stark in fifteen years or so, and has plenty of vigor for small adventures as we will see in Episode 4.
- But honestly speaking, he is not in his prime, and would be of less service to Frieren when facing powerful demons and monster than when he travelled with the company.
- But it might also be an excuse because he doesn’t want to travel so much outdoors, so fast or for long distances anymore.
- Still, he will be on a journey to the nearby the Klee region in about 15 years, where he will meet Stark and take him as his apprentice: as he reminds him of his younger self, also.

CHRONOLOGY: How old is Fern when Frieren meets her, 20 years A.H.D?
We know she celebrates 16 years old when she receives her birthday gift of the butterfly hairpin, after traveling some years with Frieren (EPISODE 3). And EPISODE THREE starts 28 years after Himmel’s death (AHD).
So, 8 years before (20 years A.H.D.) her age is around eight or nine years old. (We prefer to say 8.5). Frieren apparently stays four years and a half helping Heiter and deciphering the grimoire he tolds her about. So Fern is around 13 years old when starting her journey with her new master. They might have stayed some months more around Strahl, the Holy City, where Fern gets her third-class mage certification.
Time Confirmation: In EP. 14, Sein asks how long have they have been journeying together. Fern replies that she’s been on the road with Frieren for around four years. At that time Fern is 17, so the timeline fits with her starting to journeying after her 13th birthday, and 4.5 years before that would lead us again, to she being 8 years and a half (or so) old. Right?
In this Episode at timestamp [19:42]FUN FACT
When did Heiter a.k.a. “the corrupt priest” stop his drinking habit??
- Probably he slowed down right after Himmel’s death, but gave up completely when he saved Fern, two years ago. (Fern was like 6-7 years old then).
In this Episode at timestamp [20:08]FUN FACT
What does the name Fern really mean?
- The name Fern means in German “remote, distant”. An adequate appellative for such quiet girl, that contains her mana and emotions so much.
In this Episode at timestamp [20:11]
CONTINENT HISTORY:
What kind of wars occurred in the southern lands after the Demon King’s defeat?
Apparently sometime after Himmel’s death, and without the threat of the demons ramping around, nations in the far north and in the south started disputing territories and killing each other. Only the Empire region in the north, and the Central lands rested relatively peaceful.
WARNING: MILD SPOILER from the MANGA (click to reveal)
A powerful character that we’ll meet in season 3 (manga chapter 133), was responsible to instigate those horrible wars in the Southern lands, around the time that Fern was born… It was a cruel conflict that got her home city destroyed, and her parents dead.
What was that character’s agenda or ambitions? We don’t know for sure, but it might be quite revealing if we ever get an answer to that.
In this Episode at timestamp [20:26]POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
Why does Frieren say that she owes Heiter so much and she’s so grateful to him?
- Well, even with Himmel and Eisen around… some times protection during the journey against powerful demons, came from the “corrupt monk”. His magic of the goddess was probably key in saving his lives in some instances, like when they defeated Böse the Inmortal.
- Our guess is that he also was instrumental in killing the Demon King himself. As Frieren told Serie in the last test of the first class-mage exam: “We couldn’t have won if any one of us had been missing“. That includes Heiter, right?
- Also, Frieren probably remembers how, at Himmel’s funeral, 20 years before, Heiter helped her dearly.

MISTERIES: Who is Ewig the Sage?
A powerful human —Mage and Sage— of the Mythical era (over 1,000 years before), shrouded in mystery. (We don’t get any image of him/her, in fact).
Also, we don’t know exactly who, or how powerful she/he was… although seems almost in par with Flamme in magic knowledge and power. He or she was very much interested in magic and collected all sort of grimoires and spells: and also recorded many ancient histories and tales, like those of the Spiegel monster —as stated in the beginning of EP. 24 “Perfect Replicas”.
Probably he left some grimoires buried near his tomb, likely protected inside some magical container or barrier that preserved them over the centuries..
WARNING: MILD SPOILER from the MANGA (click to reveal)
Ewig was even capable to create an artifact powerful enough to affect a demon’s mind. We will see that explained in Season 02.

Connection with Later Episodes:
This very shot of an 8 year old Fern in the cliff ready to shoot the rock: will be displayed at the end of EP.25 when Serie says “…or a human mage [will kill you]”
WARNING: MILD SPOILER from the MANGA (click to reveal)
The magic “test” to pierce a rock from afar with a Zoltraak will be featured again in Season 02, as part of the training of another well-known mage. And: you will LOVE the backstory connected to it!
In this Episode at timestamp [23:16]
Is Fern a kind of genius?
Maybe. Maybe not. What we DO know for sure is: Fern has an innate talent to control her mana, and be almost imperceptible to other mages unless they get very close.
Even the prodigious Methode in EP.26 is only able to detect Fern’s replica… using a focused close-range mana detection.
In this Episode at timestamp [24:10]“Do you like magic?”
This very question “Do you like magic?” was posed by Flamme to Frieren when she became her apprentice, and the answer was the same: “Somewhat” (EP.10).
